Who We Are

Flower City Warriors is a Rochester-based, veteran-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to strengthening the lives of military veterans, active duty service members, reservists, Guardsmen, DoD civilians, and their families through competitive hockey, community engagement, and year-round camaraderie.

Founded to fill a critical gap in the veteran experience, Flower City Warriors brings together former and current military personnel in an environment that reinforces teamwork, discipline, mental resilience, and the shared bond of service. What begins on the ice often becomes lifelong connection off the ice.

We believe in the power of sport to reconnect veterans to a mission, a team, and a sense of identity outside the uniform. Every practice, event, and game is driven by our commitment to honor military values while creating a safe, competitive, and supportive environment for those who have served.

OUR STORY & MISSION

  • Flower City Warriors began with a simple, powerful idea: create a space where veterans could rediscover the camaraderie, structure, and teamwork that many missed after transitioning out of the military. What started as a small group of military members skating together quickly grew into a formal nonprofit organization representing Rochester and the broader Western New York military community.

    Over the years, our team has expanded to include veterans from every branch of service, active duty personnel, military family members, and DoD civilians—uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds under one shared mission: to stay connected, stay active, and stay supported.

    Whether competing locally, representing Upstate New York in regional tournaments, or participating in national veteran hockey events, Flower City Warriors stands as a proud symbol of discipline, community, and continued service.

  • To provide a recreational hockey team for military veterans, active military, reserves, and their family members in Western New York. Flower City Hockey, Inc. (D.B.A. Flower City Warriors) is formed to enhance veteran community engagement and provide veteran camaraderie supporting a return to civilian life. The organization's goal is to connect former and current military members with the support of the local community through competitive sport.

  • Our purpose is grounded in creating meaningful opportunities for veterans and military families to thrive both on and off the ice:

    1. Recreation and Opportunity Provide a structured environment where active military members, DoD civilians, veterans, and their families can participate in competitive hockey while engaging with their community.

    2. Development and Growth Foster year-round recreation, skill development, fitness, and personal growth through organized practices, competitions, and team activities.

    3. Financial Support for Veterans Assist in covering player expenses—equipment, ice time, travel, and tournament fees—through fundraising, donations, and voluntary sponsorships, ensuring no veteran is left behind due to financial barriers.

  • Flower City Warriors operates on the same principles that guided us in service—discipline, integrity, respect, teamwork, and accountability. Our Code of Conduct and Hockey Ethos reinforce how we expect every player, volunteer, and leader to carry themselves on and off the ice:

    • Safety, fair play, and sportsmanship above all

    • Respect for teammates, opponents, referees, and the game

    • Integrity in every action—public or private

    • Competing with honor and discipline

    • Displaying the values of our military heritage

    • Supporting our teammates as fellow Warriors

    We don’t play for ego. We play for each other.

Leadership & Governance

Flower City Warriors is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, each member bringing military experience, leadership discipline, and a commitment to serving the veteran community. Together, they oversee team operations, financial stewardship, community partnerships, and long-term strategy.

Our Board ensures that every decision aligns with our mission, values, and commitment to transparency as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

    Chas Belfield (Army '09-'12)

    President & CEO

    Chas oversees the overall management and direction of Flower City Warriors. He ensures alignment with mission goals, enforces organizational discipline, and leads long-term planning, policy, and governance across all programs.

    Anthony Paola (Army '11-'24)

    Director of Hockey Operations

    Anthony manages all hockey-related operations, including scheduling, practices, tournaments, and coordination between leadership roles. He maintains the competitive integrity of the program and ensures a quality experience for all players.

    Kyle Wirth

    Director of Fundraising

    Kyle leads all fundraising initiatives, sponsorship efforts, donation campaigns, and donor engagement strategies. His work directly supports players, team operations, and community programs.

    Dylan Emerson (air force '08-'11)

    Director of Communications & Outreach

    Dylan oversees external communication, public relations, media engagement, and organizational messaging. He builds relationships with sponsors, local partners, and the community to advance visibility and support.

    Eli Morse (army '15-current)

    Director of Finance


    Eli manages financial operations, budgeting, audits, and compliance with federal and state nonprofit requirements. He ensures full transparency and responsible stewardship of all organizational funds.

Hockey Operations & Team Leadership

Our hockey operations team leads the Warriors on the ice—setting strategy, maintaining discipline, and ensuring our team competes with honor in every game. From coaching to captainship, each leader is committed to upholding the standards of excellence that define Flower City Warriors.

Christopher Harris (army ‘90-’98)

Coach Harris leads all coaching strategy, player development, game planning, and roster preparation. He represents the team to officials, oversees practice design, and builds the competitive framework for every event.

Our alternate captains support team leadership, mentor new players, model the Warrior Ethos, and ensure cohesion on and off the ice.

Frank Patricelli (navy ‘98-15)

Frank serves as the on-ice leader, representing the team during games and supporting communication between players, coaches, and referees. He upholds team culture and reinforces discipline.
